19 March 2018 DHAKA – The 1st Mobile Consular Mission in Maldives was held at the Office of the Philippine Honorary Consul in Malé, Maldives on March 03-04. The mobile team from the Philippine Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh processed passport renewals, passport validity extensions and civil registrations, totaling 112 consular transactions.

28 February 2018 DHAKA – The Philippine Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh, represented by Third Secretary Ms. LV de Guzman and Post’s Gender Focal Point Ms. Joany Margallo-Lucas, called on the Maldives’ Ministry of Gender and Family Deputy Minister Ms. Leesha Mohamed on February 28 to discuss matters relating to laws, policies and programs in the Maldives that protect the rights of women and promote their safety and welfare.

(From left to right): Philippine Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) assistant Ms. Joany Margallo-Lucas, Philippine Honorary Consul to the Maldives Mr. Abdulla Salih, Maldives Police Service (MPS) Head of International Relations Unit (IRU) Chief Inspector Aiminath Suzee , Philippine Third Secretary and Vice-Consul Ms. LV de Guzman, and MPS-IRU Deputy Chief Civil Officer Ms. Rana Waheed. The Embassy and the MPS discuss the establishment of informal focal point systems between the Embassy and the Maldives Police Service with cases involving overseas Filipinos based in the Maldives, and possible areas of cooperation between the Maldives and the Philippines in the area of police work and training on March 01.

The Philippine Embassy expressed appreciation to the Ministry on March 04 for its responsiveness during various meetings held with the Philippine Embassy throughout its visit to the Maldives from February 27 to March 04. Discussions with Maldives government officials covered a number of issues including migrant workers’ rights, human trafficking, police cooperation, information sharing, and gender sensitivity.
