PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IS THE NEW CHAIR OF THE ASEAN COMMITTEE IN DHAKA
PHOTO: Ambassador Vicente Vivencio T. Bandillo, Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Dhaka (ACD), hosted the 31st ASEAN Committee in Dhaka Heads of Missions Meeting on 10 February 2019 during which he encouraged enhanced exchanges between the ACD and Bangladeshi institutions.
10 February 2019, Dhaka- Philippine Ambassador H.E. Vicente Vivencio T. Bandillo, as the new Chairperson of the ASEAN Committee in Dhaka (ACD), hosted the first ACD Heads of Missions Meeting under his chairmanship on 10 February 2019 at the Ascott Hotel in Dhaka to discuss the ACD’s activities for the year, reinforce ASEAN community values among the ACD members and explore ways to deepen ties between the Committee and Bangladeshi agencies.

29 January 2019, Dhaka- Ambassador Vicente Vivencio T. Bandillo called on the Acting Chief Controller for Import and Export (CCIE) Mr. Anup Kumar Saha on 29 January 2019 at the CCIE headquarters in Dhaka to encourage the deepening of trade relations between the Philippines and Bangladesh.

FILIPINIANA SECTION AT BANGLADESH CENTRAL PUBLIC LIBRARY SOON TO OPEN
PHOTO: Philippine Embassy Chargé d'Affaires, a.i., Ms. LV De Guzman called on Mr. Ashish Kumar Sarker, Director General of the Department of Public Libraries to discuss plans and initial preparations for the establishment of the first Filipiniana collection at the Central Public Library in Dhaka, the largest public library in Bangladesh.
20 January 2019, Dhaka- The Philippine Embassy in Bangladesh, represented by Chargé d' Affaires, a.i., Ms. LV De Guzman and attaché Ms. Cathrinne Joy Dimaranan-Gamo, had a meeting with Director General Ashish Kumar Sarker of the Department of Public Libraries-Ministry of Cultural Affairs on 20 January 2019 at the Department of Public Libraries headquarters to discuss the Embassy’s proposal to soon establish a Filipiniana section at the Central Public Library in Dhaka, the largest public library in Bangladesh.
Department of Public Library officials welcomed the Embassy’s proposal to donate books authored by Filipino writers, digital content from Philippine production companies, as well as maps and other visual promotional materials to encourage Bangladeshis to learn more about the history, culture, heritage, and geography of the Philippines. Director General Sarker expressed appreciation for the Embassy’s proposals and said that he was looking forward to the opening of the Filipiniana section at the Library.
The Central Public Library of Bangladesh in Liaquat Avenue in Dhaka has been open to the public since 1978 and welcomes an estimated 3,000 Bangladeshis daily who borrow and read books within its halls. END.
