In order to further strengthen the excellent diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Bangladesh, Ambassador Alan L. Deniega called today on Additional Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, who recently returned to Dhaka after his four-year assignment as Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Philippines. The two diplomats discussed the extensive work that has been done bilaterally, which can help pave the way for the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between their countries next year. They also extensively talked on potential agreements in the areas of trade, education, and infrastructure, which can be finalized in the near future.
Ambassador Deniega also called today on the Ministry’s Director General (DG) of South East Asia Wing, Mr. Md. Najmul Huda, another accomplished Bangladeshi diplomat, who recently assumed his position. The two officials discussed the pandemic situation, and took up the timing of important in-person bilateral meetings next year. The relations of Bangladesh with Southeast Asian countries were also touched upon. The future direction of relations between the Philippines and Bangladesh was noted as very promising, including in the area of trade, people-to-people exchanges, and development.
As part of his advocacy to further strengthen the economic relations between the Philippines and Bangladesh and to promote the economic diplomacy activities of the Embassy, the Philippine Ambassador to Bangladesh, H.E. Alan L. Deniega, met with the Minister of Industries of Bangladesh, the Honorable Mr. Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, and several captains of industry in Bangladesh during the Grand Assembly of Commercially Important Persons (CIPs), organized by the Diplomatic Spouses organization. The event also welcomed newly-arrived Ambassadors in Dhaka.
During his speech at the event, Ambassador Deniega highlighted the speed of economic development and growth of Bangladesh. He also underscored his goal of fostering more Philippine economic presence in the country.
The Philippine Honorary Consul in Chattogram, the Hon. Mohammed A. Awwal, a prominent business person in Chittagong, also attended the event together with his spouse, Mme. Khaleda.
The Philippine Ambassador to Bangladesh, H.E. Alan L. Deniega, called on the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, H.E. Sudharshan Seneviratne, at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Dhaka.
During the call, both sides committed to work closely with each other to improve bilateral relations between the Philippines and Sri Lanka. Ambassador Deniega said that he looks forward to the completion of all necessary processes and requirements for the presentation of his credentials to the President of Sri Lanka.
As part of the newly arrived Ambassador’s thrust of familiarizing himself with the situation of Filipinos based in Bangladesh, Ambassador Alan L. Deniega met with all three major Filipino community organizations in Dhaka, as soon as he finished his mandatory quarantine.
During the first week of September, Ambassador and Mrs. Deniega met with officers and representatives of the Philippine Society in Bangladesh (PSB), Filipino Grand Alliance in Bangladesh (FGAB) and Philippine Bangladesh Association (PBA).
Aside from learning first-hand the lives of Filipino workers and spouses of Bangladeshi nationals, the meetings were also an opportunity for Ambassador Deniega to thank them for keeping the spirit of unity strong among Filipinos in the host country, and for their efforts to deepen the grassroots ties with the people of Bangladesh. It was noted that all the Filipino organizations in Dhaka have been very supportive of the activities of the Philippine Embassy, including in a number of repatriation flights.
As the pandemic situation continues to improve, Ambassador Deniega said that he looks forward to meeting all the members of the organizations in the coming weeks. He assured them of the Embassy’s support and cooperation with all Filipino nationals in Bangladesh.
