The Black Soapapple was brought into the Philippines by the Galleon trade from Mexico. Its fruit resembles the Chico, except that it has a green exterior and is black on the inside. It is an evergreen tree.

Ang Sapote ay mula sa Mehiko, dala-dala ng kalakalang Galyon. Kahawig ng chico ang bunga nito, bagaman luntian ang balat at maitim ang laman. Luntian ang dahon nito sa buong taon.
Ito ay hango sa "Flora de Filipinas" ni Padre Manuel Blanco, OSA, na unang nalimbag noong 1837.

The Velvet Apple is also known as Kamagong. It is an endemic Philippine tree and known for its durability. It has an edible fruit, although with peculiar odor. It is in season in July.
