11 January 2022 – The Philippine Embassy, represented by Ms. Christian Hope Reyes, Chargé d’affaires, a.i., participated in the farewell dinner organized by Mr. S.M. Rahman, Managing Director of the Novo Group, in honour of the foreign students of the Army and Naval Staff Course of the Bangladesh Army’s Defense Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC). Mr. Rahman serves as the foreign students’ Civil Sponsor in Bangladesh.
Lieutenant Colonel Dennis Malinit of the Department of National Defense (DND), together with students from Mali, Nepal, Nigeria, and Thailand, recently finished their year-long training at the military institution.
In her speech, Ms. Reyes expressed hope that the participation of the students in the course can help facilitate and strengthen cooperation among countries and with Bangladesh in the area of defense, security, and peacekeeping. She thanked the students’ Civil Sponsor and host, Mr. Rahman, for his relentless support and kind hospitality and towards the foreign students, including to the Philippines’ Lt. Col. Malinit.
Other guests of honour present in the dinner were H.E. Makawadee Sumitmor, Thailand’s Ambassador in Bangladesh, and Mr. Kumar Rai, Nepal’s Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Both emphasized the importance of professional military education and training to promote peace and development in the region.

The Defense Services Command and Staff College is a military institution of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. It provides professional military training to select mid-career officers in the Army, Navy, and Air Forces.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s Victory Day and in view of the Christmas holiday season, the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in the People's Republic of Bangladesh participated in the bazaar organized by the Diplomatic Spouses organization on 10 and 11 December 2021.
The Filipino community, represented by members of the Philippine Society in Bangladesh (PSB), Filipino Grand Alliance in Bangladesh (FGAB), and the Philippine Bangladesh Association (PBA), actively participated in the event and showcased homemade Filipino delicacies like pandesal, bibingka, and lumpia, among others. The Embassy also displayed artworks painted by Filipino artists, traditional Filipiniana costumes, and Philippine-made handcrafts and accessories.
The two-day event was also a Christmas Carnival celebration, with a Concert for Bangladesh held on the first day and Christmas carols sung by Filipino community members and the Bottomley Homes Orphanage on the second day.
17 October 2021, Dhaka – As part of the Philippine Embassy’s mission to look after the welfare of the Filipino community in Bangladesh, Ambassador Alan L. Deniega administered the oath taking ceremony of the new set of officers of the Filipino community organization Filipino Grand Alliance in Bangladesh (FGAB), on 15 October 2021, at Ascott The Residence, Dhaka.
In his remarks, Ambassador Deniega thanked the organization and its officers not only for always supporting the Embassy, but also for extending their assistance -- whether as individuals or as an organization -- to other Filipinos in Bangladesh. The Ambassador also encouraged them to continue with their activities, which is a source of pride for Filipinos in this country.
FGAB is one of the three Filipino Organizations in Dhaka, which was founded in November 2010. It has more than seventy eight (78) members.
