Dhaka, 19 April 2025 – In celebration of Filipino Food Month (FFM) this April, the Philippine Embassy in Bangladesh proudly joined the Sydney International School Carnival held on Saturday, 19 April 2025, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Gulshan-2, Dhaka. The event provided a vibrant and meaningful platform to highlight the Philippines’ rich culinary traditions and strengthen cultural connections with the Bangladeshi and international communities in Dhaka.
Filipino Food Month, celebrated every April by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 469, s. 2018, aims to preserve and promote the country’s culinary heritage by honoring Filipino food as an essential part of the nation's cultural identity and shared history. This initiative is jointly led by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the Department of Agriculture (DA), the Department of Tourism (DOT), and the Philippine Culinary Heritage Movement (PCHM). The celebration pays tribute to Filipino farmers, fisherfolk, and food artisans who nourish the nation and preserve its culinary legacy.
The Philippine Embassy set up a colorful and welcoming Filipino Food Booth at the carnival, offering a variety of well-loved Filipino dishes and delicacies including arroz caldo, adobo (soy-braised chicken), adobong mani (garlic-fried peanuts), beef pares (soy-stewed beef), buko salad, nilagang mais (boiled corn on the cob), kutsinta (brown rice cake), lumpia, sapin-sapin (layered glutinous rice cake), siomai, halo-halo, sago’t gulaman, spaghetti, yema, and fried chicken with potato salad. A specially designed Sari-Sari Store corner recreated a nostalgic slice of Filipino neighborhood life, drawing attention and smiles from both Filipino and international guests.
Notably, there were three Filipino food stalls at the event, and all three were the first to sell out—a clear reflection of the strong interest and positive reception from attendees. Bangladeshi customers enjoyed the Filipino delicacies, and members of the Filipino community were visibly delighted by the overwhelming support and brisk sales. The success of the food stalls showcased not only the richness of Filipino flavors but also the enthusiasm of the Filipino community in promoting their heritage.
The event was graced by Her Excellency Nina P. Cainglet, Philippine Ambassador to Bangladesh, along with officials and personnel from the Embassy, members of the Filipino community, Bangladeshi friends, and members of the diplomatic corps. The Embassy’s participation was also made possible through the efforts of Kolpokar, a Filipino-owned restaurant in Dhaka, and enterprising members of the local Filipino community.
Through this initiative, the Embassy successfully promoted Filipino cuisine as a cultural bridge, while also providing opportunities for economic empowerment and community engagement. The event reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to fostering goodwill and cross-cultural appreciation in Bangladesh through food, warmth, and Filipino hospitality.
