18 June 2022, Dhaka – The Philippine Embassy in Bangladesh held its first Diplomatic Reception and Cultural Night since the pandemic. The event, which was a joint commemoration of the 124th anniversary of Philippine Independence and 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Bangladesh, was held at the Le Meridien Hotel, attended by members of the diplomatic corps, officials from the Bangladesh Government, partners of the Philippines in the economic, cultural, educational, tourism, media, and other sectors, as well as members of the Filipino community.

In his welcome remarks, Philippine Ambassador Alan L. Deniega highlighted the resilience of Filipinos in overcoming hardships to maintain peace, achieve prosperity, and uphold its sovereignty. He also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Philippines’ diplomatic relations with Bangladesh and lauded the strong development potential of Bangladesh.

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen offered congratulatory remarks on the occasion. He stated that Bangladesh is looking forward to strengthening bilateral ties and cooperation with the Philippines in the following areas: trade and investment, agro-processing, and technology; training and skills transfer in nursing and health technologies, IT, and business process outsourcing centers and in working with the incoming administration.

Cultural performances by members of the three Filipino community organizations, the Philippine Bangladesh Association, Filipino Grand Alliance in Bangladesh, and Philippine Society in Bangladesh enlivened the occasion.
