24 May 2022 - As part of the efforts to increase people-to-people exchange between the Philippines and Bangladesh, Ambassador Deniega met with Mr. Mohibul Islam of the Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) and Mr. Moniruzzaman Masum of the Tour Operators’ Association of Bangladesh yesterday to discuss ways to boost the tourism exchanges between the two countries.
Mr. Mohibul Islam conveyed that he and other Bangladeshi government officials participated in the World Travel and Tourism Council Global Summit held in Manila last month. He expressed admiration for the sights and infrastructures of Manila, as well as for how the said international event was well organized in the Philippines.
Mr. Moniruzzaman Masum said that Bangladeshi tourism operators have agreed to help promote bilateral tourism with many other countries, given the leisure spending of Bangladeshis which is fueling domestic tourism.
Ambassador Deniega said the Philippines can benefit from the growing economy of Bangladesh and the increasing per capital income of its population. Many Bangladeshi nationals also avail of medical facilities in nearby countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.
With the reopening of borders and the bilateral recognition of COVID-19 vaccine certificates between the two countries, both sides expect an increase in bilateral tourism, and will work for facilitating this exchange of people for leisure and business.
