The event highlighted the contribution of the Philippines and Filipino film makers in the global scene through innovative films, particularly the continued participation of Philippines films in the Dhaka International Film Festival.
Ambassador Vicente Vivencio T. Bandillo, in his speech, emphasized the “importance of films and film making and their role in recording a people’s social and cultural history, including performances and dances, which provide evidence of their ways of life, expression, and even speech, therefore making films not just a device for storytelling but a register of a people’s psyche and social trends reflecting morals of a period and moods of an era.”
The three Filipino films participating in the 16th DIFF are “The Decaying” directed by Mr. Sonny Calvento and competing under the Cinema of the World Category, “Baconaua” (Sea Serpent) produced by Mr. Ferdinand Lapuz, and “Bomba,” (The Bomb) directed by Mr. Ralston Jover and produced by Mr. Dennis Evangelista, both of which compete under the Asian Competition Category.
